November Newsletter

As we approach the end of the year, The Housing Connection would like to share some important updates and announcements with you before we close for the Christmas and New Year holiday period.

The office will be closed from Friday 20th December, and will reopen on Monday, 6th January 2025. If you require urgent support during the office closure, please don’t hesitate to contact the on-call on 0412 037 719. Anne Louise will be on the on-call and will be to assist with any urgent matters.

We would also like to take this opportunity to remind you about the upcoming THC Christmas Party on 30th November at Laurelbank Willoughby. Please RSVP by 22nd November to thc@thc.org.au or call reception (94152311) with your dietary requirements as we have arranged separate meals for Vegetarians and Vegans. We are excited to celebrate Christmas with you!

The Housing Connection’s Annual General Meeting was held on Monday 28 October. This year we had 80 people in attendance and another 11 on line. True to THC form, participant engagement and that of members was key in completing the formalities of the evening, followed by the chance for a bite to eat and catch up. You can check out the Annual Report 2024 on our website

Many of the questions of those present was on how the new NDIS legislation would affect them, and the impact of the outcomes of the Royal Commission into Abuse and Neglect and the NDIS review report. THC is a reputable and registered provider and we anticipate continuing to thrive as organisation that has Disability rights in its DNA and with our strong focus on quality of life outcome and continuous improvement. Thanks for joining us. We will continue to provide updates to you as they come to hand, but please call us if you have any questions.

⚠️NDIA Urgent Alert ⚠️

We have previously sent out communication to Support Coordination participants and flagged at the AGM, that the NDIA has been calling participants, saying that they are ‘checking in’, and then issuing a new plan and these are usually with reduced funding. If you receive a call from the NDIA, please advise them that you would like to make a time for a plan review so that you have time to prepare appropriately. We have even heard of the NDIA not even contacting the participant or the nominated Support Coordinator, but going to third party providers, such as Occupational Therapist, and then issuing a new and reduced plan.

Thank you so much for your continued support of The Housing Connection this year. We will be back with an update next year in February with some amazing pictures from the Christmas Party!

Kind Regards,

Nicola Hayhoe
